Thundery rain with hail hit in northeastern Qatar

Qatar today received its first showers in the northeastern part of the country accompanied by hail in some areas.

Residents from Simsimah and north of Al Dhakira shared videos of the light rain through social media accounts.

MET warned on its social media adding, "Thundery rain continues in northeastern areas accompanied with strong wind as latest observations report 32 kt in Alruwais - Simsimah road. Please watch out for rising dust and poor visibility."

epartment of Meteorology in its daily report has been warning of development of clouds in some parts of Qatar along with a chance of local thundery rain by afternoon. Offshore, it will be fine to some clouds, the report added.

Wind inshore will be southeasterly to southwesterly less than 05 knot at first, becoming northerly to northeasterly at a speed of 05 to 15 knot, reaching 25 knot with thunder activity. Offshore, it will be southeasterly at a speed of 03 to 12 knot at first becoming to northwesterly to northeasterly later.

Visibility will be 04 to 08 or 03 kilometer or less at places at times.

Sea state inshore will be 1 to 2 feet. Offshore will be 1 to 3 feet.
