QR1m ‘Sheikh Eid Humanitarian Award’ announced

The ‘Sheikh Eid Humanitarian Award’ worth QR1m was announced yesterday in Doha to promote qualitative excellence, and honor the people and institutions that have made a different with their influential ideas in the service of the people. “The Award will be organized annually with the support of Sheikh Eid Al Thani Waqf (Endowment) to consolidate the noble human values that build and fight those who destroy,” said

He said such award is established to contribute in providing solutions to some of the most complex human problems. “Many international awards have been set for those who can overcome challenges in areas related to life, thought and culture,” he added. Al Thani stressed on the role of humanitarian action in helping people and alleviating their suffering.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Award, Sheikh Ahmed Al Buainain said that there registration for the entries of the Award has begun and the deadline is mid-January. Then it is followed by the distribution of work and nominations to specialized arbitration committees to announce the winners in March 2019.

He said that the award will be given to individuals and institutions who provide innovative work in various fields such as education, health, culture and other fields of development, science and intellectual. “The first winner will receive QR500,000, while the second place will receive QR300,000, and the third winner will get QR200,000. As well as an honorary award is dedicated to humanitarian entrepreneurs who provide valuable humanitarian services,” he added.
