Qatar-Germany relationship reaches new heights

German National Day is held on the 3rd of October every year to mark the anniversary of the reunification of Germany.

Qatar-German relations were first commenced in 1973. The depth of the Qatar-German relationship reflected clearly in the strong political relations between the two friendly countries. These relations have grown significantly in recent years and now cover a wide range of commercial, cultural, sports, scientific and political fields.

Tourism

Qatar has waived visa-upon-arrival requirements for German citizens granting them free access to the country and allowing them to spend up to 90 days in Qatar, during either a single trip or on multiple trips.

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) and DER Touristik Deutschland have joined hands to further boost awareness of Qatar as a tourism destination and attract more visitors to Qatar. QTA signed agreement with German AIDA Cruises and Italian Costa Cruises to establish a partnership aimed at developing cruise tourism with Qatar. And Qatar Airways operates 35 weekly flights connecting Doha to the German cities of Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich.

Qatari-German trade volume  

Doha and Berlin have more than 60 years of commercial relations.Qatari-German bilateral trade volume over the 2013-2017 period grew significantly to approximately $12.6bn, and Qatar ranked as Germany’s 11th largest trading partner, and third largest export destination in 2017, 

Qatar to invest 10 billion euros in German

Qatar will make 10 billion euro ($11.64 billion) of direct investments into Germany in the next five years, Qatar's Emir H.H. Tamim bin Hamad al Thani said in Berlin during his recent tour.

"To express our trust in the strength of the German economy and the importance of investing in it, I announce the intention of Qatar to pump investments that amount to 10 billion euros into the German economy in the next five years," H.H The Amir of Qatar al said.

Arts and culture

In 2017, Germany and Qatar hold a bilateral cultural year, officially entitledGerman Season in Qatar. The broad and varied programme involved a number of high profile organisations in Qatar including the Qatar National Library, Doha Film Institute, Katara, and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.The year-long programme involved exhibitions, competitions and events – all designed to promote mutual understanding, recognition and appreciation between Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany.
