Drivers beware: Thunderstorms accompanied by rain and dust affects visibility

Qatar Meteorology Department warned motorists of sudden strong wind accompanied by thunderstorm as it extends into the sea. The department also said that the strong winds would cause dust and low visibility.

Residents across various parts of the country reported of thunder, rain and low visibility due to the dust.


Meanwhile, the department in its daily report said that weather inshore tonight until 6 am on Thursday will be partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered rain and chance of thunderstorm at some areas, warning of thunderstorms expected at some areas associated with sudden strong wind sometimes.

Offshore, it will be fine partly cloudy with chance of scattered rain maybe thundery at times, warning of expected thundery rain associated with strong wind and high sea, the report added.

Wind inshore will be mainly northeasterly to northwesterly 05 to 18 knot, reaching 30 knot with thunderstorms.

Offshore, it will be mainly southeasterly to southwesterly 06 to 16 knot, reaching to 35 knot during the thunder rain.

Visibility will be 4 to 8 or 3 kilometer or less at some areas sometimes.

Sea state inshore will be 1 to 3 feet rises to 5 feet during thunder rain. Offshore, it will be 2 to 4 feet rises to 9 feet during thunder rain.
