8 tips for driving safely in the rain in Qatar

It’s been raining on and off since Saturday morning, and that’s why it’s very important to drive carefully in this rainy weather and observe safe driving practices to ensure you, fellow passengers and others on the road stay safe.

1. Reduce the speed of your car

Roads may be slippery in the rain, so reduce your speed and keep it below the recommended speed limit to maintain control over your car and to avoid skidding

2. Keep a safe distance between your car and the one in front of you

It is very important to keep a safe distance between cars to avoid bumping into the car in front of you in case of sudden braking in the rain which may cause the car to skid.

3. Avoid sudden braking

Maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you and concentrate on driving while in the rain to avoid sudden braking which may be dangerous for you, the car in front of you and the one behind you. The last thing you want is a pile up!

4. Avoid driving through roads that are flooded

You may think it’s safe to drive through the water, but you may not be able to judge just how flooded the road is or how deep the water. The last thing you want is to get stuck in that water or have your engine stop because it’s filled with water. Try to avoid such roads as much as you can when it’s raining.

5. Do not use hazard lights during the rain

Hazard lights are used for emergencies if your car is having some problem, to indicate the cars driving behind you that the traffic in front has slowed down considerably and during the fog so the cars in front of you and behind you can see you. They are NOT used during the rain though, so please refrain from using them when it’s raining.

6. Make sure you have working windshield wipers

Always make sure your wipers are in tip-top condition because if it rains, you will need them, or your visibility may be reduced to zero if the rain is heavy.

7. Lights and indicators

During the rain, lights and indicators are a means of communicating with other drivers and to guide them on possible safety measures during the rain, so always ensure they are working properly.

8. Make sure your tires are in good condition

Always check your tyres. Ensure they are in good working condition, make sure the tyre grip is intact and the air pressure is filled to the right amount to ensure your car doesn’t skid during the rain.

Please stay safe during the rain. Drive carefully
